We all hate those last couple of pounds of fat that just do not want to leave our bodies. You try out everything: you lower carbs, you lower fats, you lower calories in general, and yet you just cannot get rid of it. In the end, you are left with the confusing disappointment.Well rest assured there is nothing to worry about. The answer your troubles is L-Carnitine!

L-Carnitine is probably one of the most debated supplements out there. Especially after the new study released in the journal “Nature Medicine” which states that cholesterol and fat is not what makes red meat unhealthy as it increases the risk of a cardiovascular disease, but rather the L-Carnitine found in red meat.

I am not really sure to how far are we suppose to believe this new theory but I would strongly recommend that, if you decide to start consuming L-Carnitine as a supplement to boost your fat loss percentage, that you stop or rather lower the consumption of red meat throughout the week!

I, personally, do not consume red meat that often. I mainly focus on turkey breasts, chicken breasts, and lamb.

What is L-Carnitine exactly ?
Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine. In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (fats) for the generation of metabolic energy. Confused ? Ok, enough joking around. In a much simpler language, Carnitine is an amino acid which helps the body to use lipids (also called fats in our bodies) to be used as energy.

Is L-Carnitine healthy ?
Healthy ? Psh, it’s more than JUST healthy, it’s SUPER healthy for you. L-Carnitine brings a lot of health benefits to the table!

  • It will boost your metabolic rate that targets the fatty acids (allowing you to burn a lot more fat)
  •  It is also an anti-aging agent
  •  It enhances brain cell function, increases brain oxygen
  •  Improving symptoms and complications of heart disease and heart failure
  • Treating male infertility caused by inflammation of some reproductive organs and tissues (prostate, seminal vesicles)
  • Improving athletic ability.
  • It will also boost your anabolic state (as it gives you more energy thanks to the fatty acids)


How to consume L-Carnitine?
The most suitable time to consume the supplement is before your training as a pre-workout (on your workout days). Or early in the morning on your resting days.

L-Carnitine side effects
Of course there are side effects if you are not being careful with the consumption of the supplement.

The recommended dosage of L-Carnitine is 550 mg a day. Personally I take a little bit less (440 mg) and I take 330 mg on my resting days, but I will leave you to decide how much a day do you think is good for you.

Increasing the dosage above the recommended (550 mg) you are not going to burn more fats, but in fact you are just going to damage your body.

Side effects from consuming too much L-Carnitine a day are – vomiting, nauseate, stomach aches, and even seizures. So I strongly recommend you are careful with how much pills are you taking a day! I am probably repeating my self by saying this but remember “There are no deadly venoms there are only deadly quantities” meaning that everything that is being taken with precision is going to be good for you and aid you !

Over-all I can say that L-Carnitine is a wonderful supplement. It helps you burn more fat naturally and it aids you in many other ways. If you were wondering whether to buy or not to buy this supplement, I would say go for it ! It is not expensive, it lasts long, and it truly helps achieve better results.
